I am a psychotherapist, actor and applied theatre practitioner with over 20 years of combined experience in the fields of mental health, social work and community arts. I have taught and practised in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and North America, working extensively with communities impacted by political violence and collective trauma. I am Founder of Dawar Arts and Dawar Kitchen (Cairo, Egypt). I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from Deakin University, Australia; a Masters in Counselling Psychology with a concentration in Drama Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies, USA; and a PhD in Peace Studies from the University of New England, Australia. I have published book chapters and academic articles in professional journals and have presented my research at conferences and universities around the world. I am an Accredited Clinical Social Worker (ASCW) with the Australian Association of Social Workers, a Level 3 trained, Approved Clinical Consultant and Certified Therapist of Internal Family Systems (IFS) through the IFS Institute, and a Registered Drama Therapist (RDT) and Board Certified Trainer (BCT) with the North American Drama Therapy Association. I am also an Accredited Playback Theatre Trainer through the Centre for Playback Theatre, New York. I am the author and principal actor of The Invaders’ Fear of Memories: A Play About the Colonisation of Palestine. Since its premiere in August 2023, I have performed the play in eight countries. I was born in Scotland and hold citizenship in both the United Kingdom and Australia. I currently live in Galicia, Spain, and work internationally—offering psychotherapy, supervision, and mentorship both online and in person.
